Very important message

Hi everyone, It is REALLY important that you indicate the correct class when you complete Google Forms. I will not be searching through other classes for your submission to check that your work might be saved within another class. If I cannot find your work with YOUR class' submission of Google Forms, it will be considered a non-submission, and I will be making contact with your parents and yourself about the work that has not been completed. I have had numerous students tell me they DID complete work, only for me to find it within the submissions for a different class. Thanks for your vigilance with this.

Online week 3 - This weeks' work

Hello everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend and were able to enjoy the warmer weather - it certainly is nice! Please see below the work for this week. A reminder, you should be spending, on average, 30 minutes per day on Science work, with a total of 2.5 hours per week. You can choose how to split up the work to cover during the week. Grade 8 Click on each lesson below for this weeks' tasks. Lesson 1 (30 minutes) Lesson 2 (30 minutes) Lesson 3 (60 minutes) Lesson 4 (30 minutes) - Note: this lesson contains a link to a Google Forms quiz to complete by the end of the week. The quiz can also be accessed directly with t his link . Answers to any question asked throughout the documents will be provided on Friday. A reminder for any student who has not completed either the 'Uses of Fluids' quiz or the chromatography lab submission to submit these tasks. I will be contacting students and parents via email today (Monday) to touch base with any studen...

Submitting tasks for this week

Hi everyone, Just a reminder that all classes have tasks to submit this week . The links are below: Grade 8 - you have a summary quiz and a chromatography lab to submit, both on Google Forms Grade 9 - you have an entry slip to submit on a Google Form Be sure to email me if you have any questions. On Monday, I will be touching base with any student who has not submitted these tasks to see if there are any issues or you need a hand with them.

Important message for Grade 8 students

Hello Grade 8 students, When you receive the scores from the formative assessment on the 'Uses of Fluids' quiz, the score may not reflect the actual number of correct responses (for example, if you get 1 answer incorrect on an 8 part questions, the quiz program is unfortunately marking the entire question incorrect) - please do not worry about the number received at the end of the quiz and instead review the answers, making note of areas of improvement. When I check your work, I am NOT looking at the overall result, but will be checking individual questions Any questions or concerns, please let me know. Thank you for your patience as we work through the many intricacies of using these new learning platforms.

Online week 2 - This weeks' work

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great extra long weekend. Welcome to the second week of your online learning experience. I hope that you found the first week straightforward and easy to navigate the lessons. Remember, send me an email if there are any questions, issues or concerns. For both Grade 8 and Grade 9, there are tasks that you MUST SUBMIT as formative assessment for this week. For Grade 8 , this is a very easy lab task. You need to write a hypothesis, upload a photograph of your results and answer 4 questions. This will all be submitted via a Google Form. For Grade 9 , this is an entry slip that will quiz the work from last week. Grade 8 Science Lesson 1  - 60 minutes ( link to the Uses of Fluids quiz ) - this quiz should be finished by Friday. Lesson 2  - 30 minutes Lesson 3  - 60 minutes ( link to Google Form to upload formative assessment) Note: the Chromatography task is due by Monday 20th April. On Monday, I will touch base with any...

Google Meet session tomorrow

Hi everyone, I would like to run our first Google Meet session tomorrow (Thursday) at the following times: Grade 8 - from 11.00am to 11.30am Grade 9 - from 1.00pm to 1.30pm (extended to 1.45pm, if needed) Note: the Grade 9 session is scheduled at the same time as a Humanities session, which will end at 1.15pm (please see your email for more information). Please join the Science session after 1.15pm. These sessions are not mandatory and are an opportunity to catch up, check in and ask questions you might have about the work you have completed last week and this week. I need to remind you about the expectations for participating in a Google Meet session. Normal classroom rules will still apply and I will be managing behaviour as I would in a classroom. An email will be sent to you this afternoon with a link to a 'Google Meet Etiquette' document. By entering the Google Meet session, you acknowledge that you have read this document. The email will also contain the uniq...

The rest of the work for this week...

Hi everyone, I hope that you all had a chance to work through the first part of this weeks' lessons. Here is the remainder of work for this week: Grade 8 Grade 9 I will post the answers to all the work for this week on Thursday. A reminder to please check your email, as I sent a link to a 'Check In' quiz (which is actually a fun Australian Trivia quiz). This quiz is mandatory and must be completed by Thursday 3.30pm.

Australian Trivia Quiz

Hi everyone, You should have now all received an email with a link to a Google Forms Quiz with some quick Australian Trivia Questions. I need ALL students to complete this quiz. It should only take a few minutes, but the quiz serves two purposes: 1.  For me to try using Google Forms for the first time and to iron out any kinks and issues you find in creating the form (which some of you have already done, so keep the feedback coming!) 2.  For me to touch base with you all and see if there are any students NOT engaging in work or not able to access emails, the blog and lessons. The link to the Google Forms has been emailed to you. You need to make sure that you are logged into your Google account to be able to access the trivia quiz. If there are any questions or issues with the link or the form, or you simply have feedback or suggestions about how I can make the forms better, please send me an email :) Have a little fun with the trivia quiz...I got my son to answer...

Online week 1 - Welcome to the new unit of work

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. Today marks the start of our next unit of work for both Grade 8 and Grade 9 classes. I will also be posting a very quick 'Touching Base' activity later this week. This is simply an opportunity for me to practice using Google Forms and for me to hear back from ALL my students to make sure you are all able to access my blog, emails and lessons. I will post the link to this Google Form in an email, but I will alert you to this Google Form on this blog when it is ready. Grade 8 Our new unit is...... MIX 'N' FLOW!!! Please use this link  to find an Introductory PowerPoint lesson. The PowerPoint includes a review of work from previous units and from last year, as well as practical activities and analysis questions. Tomorrow, I will post another link with the remainder of this weeks' tasks.  Note: There is about 2.5 hours worth of work in this weeks' lessons, but the expectation is to complete about ...

Have a great weekend, everyone!!  Will be in touch again on Monday.

Please check your email

Hi everyone, May I please ask that you check your email and look for a 'Test email' from me. I created email lists for each class and tested them out by sending you a test email. I had three email addresses bounce back as incorrect, so I have fixed this. However, IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE AN EMIL FROM ME with the subject 'Test Email', please send me an email to let me know and I will look into why you did not receive it. You do not need to reply to the email to confirm that you received it - only that you didn't receive it. I will be using these email lists to create Google Meet sessions. This might not be for a little while yet, so don't worry too much about this at the moment. I hope you are all working through the work I set for today. Remember, the answers will be posted tomorrow. Thanks, Mrs Novak

Thursday 2nd April

Good morning, everyone. As promised, here are the links to the review worksheet ( Grade 8 Cells and Systems ) and the review quiz ( Grade 9 Biodiversity ). Just remember, this is only an assessment of your knowledge for YOURSELF. You do not need to send me your results. I will post the answers on tomorrow's blog post so that you can mark your worn work. It would be great if you can do these worksheet/quiz tasks without looking at your notes. This will give you a good understanding of what you know and what you don't know. If you are unsure of something, leave the question and move on to the next one. Come back to it at the end. Once you have finished all you can do, THEN you can look at your notes and see if you can work out the answer. Maybe put a star next to this question so that you know you used your notes for some help. Please send an email if you have any questions. Have a great day!

Wednesday 1st April

I hope that everyone was able to spend a bit of time today refreshing your memory and knowledge on either Cells and Systems (Grade 8) or Biodiversity (Grade 9). I will be uploading the worksheet (Grade 8) and the Quiz (Grade 9) tomorrow morning by 9.00am. The answers for these tasks will be available from 9.00am on Friday.

Review lessons

THIS POST HAS BEEN UPDATED. PLEASE READ AGAIN. Grade 8 Science Hello students, Since we finished classes before we actually we able to finish the unit on Cells and Systems, I would still like to conclude the unit with some type of worksheet to check your understanding. However, rest assured that this will be a formative worksheet (will not count towards your grades). You will complete some review tasks and I will post a link for the worksheet to do at home. For this worksheet, the expectation is that you will complete this worksheet on your own without looking at your notes. I will then provide the answers on Friday and you can mark your own work to see how you went. I will not know if you used your notes, but as a test of your own knowledge and understanding, it is best if you treat this like a quiz at school. So, for this week, I would like you to do the following: Today (Wednesday):  Complete the 'Cells and Systems' Unit Review on page 169-171 of the t...
