Wednesday 29th January

Year 8 Science Students completed Venn diagrams to compare and contrast different organisms that have similar structures/functions. Note: Topic 1 Quiz on Monday 3rd February. Year 9 Science Students participated in discussions about the impacts of Climate Change and received their new task. Students are required to come up with a question about the impacts of climate change to ask each of three stakeholders. This task will be collected from Monday 3rd February. Note:  Unit Final (Environmental Chemistry) on Monday 3rd February. Topics:   Acids and Bases (pH scale, H+ and OH-, measuring pH, neutralization, acid rain) Nitrogen Cycle and human activities Organic substances (structures and elements found in lipids, carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acid) Inorganic substances (effects of macronutrients and micronutrients on plants and animals) Taking in substances (diffusion, osmosis, active transport, ingestion, absorption, substrates) Monitoring ...

Monday 27th January

Year 8 Science Students worked through 8 different stations to examine the characteristics of living things. 'MRSGREN' outlined the 7 different requirements of 'living' compared to 'non-living' things.  Year 9 Science Students began watching the documentary 'Chasing Ice' and making notes as a film review. Students are preparing notes to complete an assessment task, which will be handed out later this week. Note: There are still a number of students yet to submit their Organics Lab from 3 weeks ago. I am still accepting these, as well as the Bioindicators lab, that was due last week. I will be updating PowerSchool ASAP with grades and details of non-submissions of tasks.

Thursday 23rd January

Special Announcement Note to all: I will be away from school tomorrow (Friday 24th January). I will see you on Monday! Year 8 Science In class this week, students completed their Topic 2 and 3 Quiz. Grades are posted in PowerSchool. Students will receive their quizzes back in class today to look over. We went through the textbook chapter to ensure students know the areas to study for the Unit Final. Reminder: Your Unit Final is TOMORROW! Year 9 Science Students completed their Topic 2 and 3 Quiz today. Grades will be available in PowerTeacher early next week. Early finishers of the Quiz kept working on their Pollution textbook exercise from yesterday's lesson. Reminder: Please submit your Bioindicators Lab ASAP. If you still have not submitted your Organics molecule Lab, you must submit that as a priority.

Monday 20th January

Year 8 Science Students completed an activity investigating convex and concave lenses and magnifying glasses. Be sure to prepare for your upcoming quiz being held on tomorrow. The quiz will cover everything from Topics 2 and 3: Laws of Reflection and Refraction, curved mirrors, concave and convex lenses, the eye (label and know the function of different structures), comparing cameras to eyes, vision problems and how to correct them). Your Unit Test will be held Friday this week. Year 9 Science Students investigated how to measure concentration (eg. parts per million; ppm) and practiced textbook questions. Be sure to prepare for your upcoming quiz for Thursday. The quiz will cover Topics 2 and 3: the Nitrogen Cycle, inorganic and organic substances, tests used to identify organic substances, how organisms take in substances (osmosis and diffusion, fertilizers, photosynthesis, ingestion), biomagnification and bioaccumulation, how harmful chemicals enter the environme...
